Apprenticeship programs combine on-the-job training with traditional classroom instruction. These skills have historically been handed down from one skilled craftsman to the next, ensuring that integrity, a strong work ethic, and pride carry on from generation to generation. Apprentices earn a living wage throughout the education process with periodic raises to reflect increased experience and commitment. Once the apprenticeship is completed workers receive full journey-level wages and internationally-recognized trade certification. Some programs even enable apprentices to earn college credits and/or an associate’s degree.
Successful applicants should expect mentally and physically demanding work in all kinds of weather conditions. Much of our work is not glamorous. It can be cold, hot, heavy, and downright dirty, so those afraid of hard work need not apply. Building Trades unions don’t have seniority; we have accountability. You should expect an honest day’s work for an honest day’s pay. You’ll go home tired at the end of the day, but you’ll be able to look back at what you built with pride.
