All victim advocates need to attend a 37.5 hour in class basic advocacy training in order to advocate for victims. The goals and objectives for the training are as follows:
Identify the prevalence of domestic violence
Discuss the eight aspects of domestic violence as modeled in the Power and Control Wheel
Identify common characteristics of perpetrators
Discuss barriers that keep victims in abusive relationships
Determine the effects of domestic violence on children
Identify available treatment options
Identify risk factors for dangerous situations
Discuss safety planning with domestic violence victims
