2017-2018 School Year
Visual and Performing Arts:
VAPA Summer Enrichment Camp!
We have had a wonderful experience this year. We are so excited to announce that our culminating event and Parent Performance will be held on Friday, June 16th at 10:30 am at Gold Ridge Elementary School in the Multi-Purpose Room.
Elementary Visual Arts:
The City of Rancho Cordova, through the Measure H Grant, has generously donated funds to support the Visual Arts program at all Rancho Cordova elementary schools. We are bringing Artist to Go in conjunction with the Crocker Art Museum and Meet the Masters. These two quality programs benefit our students, families and community in many ways. Look for more information to come!
Elementary Music:
Program Information
Welcome to Elementary Music! Next year your student will learn to play an instrument, read music, and perform in a group setting. We are currently sending home letters with information regarding music class options and eligibility for district loaned instruments. Another letter will go home in August with dates, times and locations for our Loaner and Rental Nights. We will be updating this web site over the summer when those are confirmed. Below is an overview of our program.
General Music (recorder) is a required class unless students choose one of the options below.
- Option for 4th Grade Students: Beginning Strings (Violin, Viola, or Cello)
- Option for 5th and 6th Grade Students: Intermediate Strings (Violin, Viola, or Cello and must have taken Beginning Strings) or Beginning Band (Clarinet, Flute, Trombone, or Trumpet)
General Music Supplies can be purchased at either of the school sites that will be hosting our Rental Nights and at our District Loaner Nights at our District Office.. There will be one school site in Folsom and one in Rancho Cordova. We will let you know the locations when your student returns to school in August. A Recorder and Book are $5 each and an optional, but very useful stand is $7. A package of all three is $15. Used books and recorders can also be borrowed if needed.
You may rent an instrument from a local music vendor if your student did not qualify for one of our district loaned instruments. You can visit the stores or their websites to reserve an instrument in advance. We have links to some local music stores below. For your convenience, you may be abke to pick up a rented instrument at one of our Rental Nights.
If you choose to purchase an instrument or borrow an instrument from a friend or relative, please make sure that it is of good quality. The instruments available at the Big Box stores or online are not always the best. They may be inexpensive but they are not easily repaired and tend to go out of tune often.
Families will be notified in writing in Spring 2017, if they qualify for district loaned instruments. We will have a wait list for the upcoming year for those who don't qualify in the spring. Please attend our Parent Information Night for details about our loaner program. Instrument Loaner Nights:
Waiting List:
If your student did not qualify to borrow an instrument, they can apply to be on our waiting list. There is no quarantee that we will have an instrument available for all waiting list applicants, but will do our best to place any instruments that are availble with your student. Below is a link to our waiting list application. It needs to be filled out completely and we would like you to list three choices for the preferred instrument. Please return the waiting list application to the District Office at 1965 Birkmont Drive in Rancho Cordova. We will have specific days and times that you can come to see what we have available and will contact you with the specifics after our loaner nights are finished. We cannot reserve instruments for wait list applicants. They will be awarded on a first come first served basis. Waiting List Applications are due by 4:30 pm on Thursday, August 24th.
We look forward to working with you and introducing your student to the joy of music.
